So what do I do when all else fails?
Run? Cry? Fall to my knees?
I don't know who's going to read this but I think it's a good idea to pray when all else fails. Of course I think it's a good idea to pray before all else fails. And why not while all else is failing?
Of course you shouldn't just kneel and pray to anyone and anything. The other day during the Independence Day celebration at the park in the city, a minister was asked to pray. When she prayed it was mostly an apology for the abuse of blessings that this country take for granted. Aptly spoken but she finished by saying "We pray this in the name of everything we hold dear."
I had a sinking feeling in my stomach. I don't know if she realized it but she had just prayed corporately to just about every known false god that is worshiped in this region of America. And what wasn't previously an idol became one. For instance, at the time I was in the middle of an ultimate Frisbee game and I was "holding dear" the people I was playing with. I silently told Jesus that it was in his name that I prayed. To be honest, I at first felt like shouting something over the crowd but I could think of nothing to shout.
So when all else fails pray. When you pray pray to Jesus Christ. He is the only one who can actually hear you.
